On March 11, the Department of Medical Genetics of YSMU and the Center for Medical Genetics and Primary Health Care organized the 3rd practical conference on "Practical Aspects of Medical Genetics".
Another important and useful event in the field of genetics brought together Armenian, Russian and Georgian specialists under its roof.
The conference was conducted by the leading specialists of the Center of Medical Genetics of Bochkov State University of Medical Sciences (ФГБНУ).
Tamara Sargsyan, Head of the Department of Medical Genetics of YSMU, Head of the Center for Medical Genetics and Primary Health Care, Doctor of Biological Sciences, leading expert of the EU ARICE program, made a speech of welcome.
Ekaterina Zakharova, Head of the Laboratories of Hereditary Diseases and Selective Screening of the Center of Medical Genetics of Bochkov State University of Medical Sciences, presented the report entitled: "One test-many diseases: genetic panels". Lali Margvelashvili, a medical geneticist at the Genetics Center of Tbilisi, spoke about double diagnoses of rare hereditary diseases. Maria Melikyan, a Professor at the Department of Endocrinology at YSMU, a paediatric endocrinologist at the Endocrine Department of "Muratsan" University Hospital Complex, spoke about Munchausen's syndrome, emphasizing the principle of "trust, but verify". Maria Kareva, a paediatric endocrinologist, PhD, Haifa, presented the report “Diagnostic deadlock: when genetic and clinical data do not combine”. The practical conference revealed new technologies and new opportunities for medical geneticists, neurologists, endocrinologists, pediatricians, gastroenterologists, neonatologists, family doctors.
